Bowling Green Proposals
Bowling Green Proposals
Following initial public consultation last year on the School Streets initiative at Bowling Green, members of the Parish Council had a very positive meeting with Calderdale MBC scheme managers in November to discuss the most recent plans which are shown above. Please note the plans shown may change further as negotiations are ongoing with the varying agencies involved.
The Parish Council is very supportive of the scheme’s objectives to remove traffic from the immediate environment of the school, improving pedestrian safety and access in the surrounding streets and reducing children’s exposure to vehicle emissions.
One area of concern for councillors was that the school is located within the Stainland Conservation Area and we wanted to make sure that the scheme designers were aware of that and any proposals are sympathetic to its historic character. As such we discussed proposals for paving materials, street furniture, streetlighting, bus shelters etc.
We also wanted to ensure opportunities were taken to enhance the ‘village green’ opposite the school and also to improve surrounding bus infrastructure, including a potential new stop for the 901 Huddersfield to Hebden Bridge service.
We also requested that the proposal take in to account concerns about access and effects on parking for residents living near by.
The Parish Council will submit detailed comments on the current plans in early 2026 ahead of next consultation stage which is formal Traffic Regulation Order scheduled for Spring 2026. In the meantime, to inform our response, we would be happy to hear any comments you may have on the plans. Please send to parish.clerk@sd-pc.gov.uk
