Parish Council (SDPC)
As a council, we make all kinds of decisions on issues that affect the residents of Stainland, Holywell Green, Jagger Green and Sowood. Probably the most common areas that we get involved with are planning matters where we represent the views of residents. We also look at the quality and maintenance of the local environment such as open and communal spaces, and importantly, we campaign for and better services and facilities.
As a parish council we have limited powers to make decisions ourselves, but we are happy to work with any organisation or individual that aligns with our goals of promoting the district and improving the lives of those that live here. To this end, we negotiate with those that do have the power to make final decisions such as Calderdale MBC. We are open, transparent, and local, we want to support all those helping to make the district a better place to live and work.
As a democratic organisation representing the views of residents, we are always keen to hear from residents, so please get involved contact us, come to one of our meetings, get involved in the work we are doing.

Stainland Cross Project Update

Following our recent public consultation, we have now produced a draft specification of works and obtained quotations from specialist contractors.
Reassuringly, the costs received are broadly in line with the original estimates provided by our architect.
However, the quotations have confirmed that the project cannot be delivered without securing external grant funding. We have therefore submitted an Expression of Interest to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and are awaiting the outcome.
If funding is secured, we will return to residents with a further public consultation, sharing the final specification of works and inviting comments before any decisions are made.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed their views so far.
We will keep the community updated as the project progresses.

Notice of vacancy in the office of Councillor for Stainland and District Parish Council
I must give notice, under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, that a vacancy exists in the office of Parish Councillor for the Stainland Ward ‘of’ Stainland and District Parish Council.
The vacancy has arisen due to the resignation of Councillor Alex Lyness Brown.
For a by-election to be held to fill the vacancy, a request by TEN registered local government electors in [insert ward name(if warded)] of Stainland and District Parish Council must be made, within 14 days of this notice (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays) to:
Electoral Services, Town Hall, Crossley Street, Halifax, HX1 1UJ
Electoral-Services@calderdale.gov.uk
On receipt of a valid request, the Returning Officer will set the date of an election to be held within 60 days of this notice (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), in accordance with Rule 5 of the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules 2006.
If an election is not requested, the Parish Council will co-opt a person to fill the vacancy as soon as practicable.

Public Meeting – Share Your Views on Local Issues
Wednesday 7th January, St Andrew’s Church, Stainland, 6.30pm
Calderdale Council want to improve what they do for local people and want and get your views directly at public meetings called ‘Ward Forums’
It is your chance to tell them what you think and possibly help to make a difference to your neighbourhood. They are a great place to meet your local Councillors, Council staff, Police and other services.
There will be an agenda, which will include:
- Contributions from the Calderdale Council, Neighbourhood Policing Team and other services.
- Specific items of concern/interest in your area that have been raised by people at previous meetings.
- Open forum where anyone can have their say, we want to hear from you.
